There are companies online that will allow you to purchase contacts from them without a prescription, but you would have to ask yourself, is a risk that high worth taking? For something that is very important to us as your vision, there are some things you need to consider when you want to buy contact lenses without a prescription from a licensed Optometrist, Ophthalmologist, or a doctor that specializes in the care and treatment of your eyes.
Whether they are corrective contacts or purely cosmetic you will still need the right fit. It’s important to know that people’s eyes vary in size and shape. Just like we all don’t wear the same size shoes well the same goes for contact lenses. You have to get the perfect fit for your eyes. Getting the wrong size can result in irritation, infection, abrasion, and swelling or even worse, you could end up with permanent eye and tissue damage. Our eyes are very delicate and should be handle with care.
You want to make sure to purchase lens from a reputable company. You also need to take into consideration that it is illegal for a company to sell contacts without a prescription. Contacts are considered to be a medical device so they should be treated as such. You can’t even get the disposal or a trial pair of contacts without a prescription. You wouldn’t trust the care of your eyes to just anyone. If someone is willing to sell you contacts knowing the risks involved then you have to wonder what is the agenda behind it? Obviously it’s not the care of your eyes that’s important.
If you feel that you have 20/20 vision and you only want contacts for cosmetic purpose just to give you a different look, such as the ones that changes the color of your eyes, it still would be in your best interest to consult with a professional. Your vision might not be as good as you thought and a pair of corrective lenses may be what you need and only an eye test will let you and the doctor know what you need. Some opticians also have digital imagery where you can see on a computer screen exactly how you would look in advance what color would go good with your complexion you wouldn’t want to end up with the wrong kind or color.
Of course if you are trying to get contacts to improve your vision then you will need to take a vision test because getting the wrong ones can cause your vision to get worst and not better. I could not advise anyone to purchase contacts without a prescription. Check out the FDA website for valuable information on this subject.
Just remember this when you are considering your options – if you decide to buy contacts without a prescription they may look and good and feel like the perfect fit, but over time you may not realize that they are doing harm to your prefect 20/20 vision. Now is it worth the risk?
