Can You Wear Color Contacts After LASIK?
A common question that we hear from people who have had LASIK surgery is if they can still wear non corrective or non prescription contacts. Some people are interested in wearing non corrective colored contacts – they want to know, “Can I wear color contacts after LASIK surgery?”
You may be able to. You should first make sure you eyes have totally healed from having the surgery. You would not want to push the limits or stress your eyes after just having LASIK done. After that, it’s a good idea to see your eye doctor and get your eyes measured again since having the surgery could have changed the shape of your eyes slightly. You want your contact lenses to fit your eye properly so that you don’t get an infection. So you should only need to get measured once and then you can order non prescription contacts after that.
Some people who have had LASIK surgery go and get non prescription glasses since they are recognized by people when they do have glasses on their face. Other people had the surgery with the purpose in mind if getting rid of their glasses. It’s not a strong prescription but just enough so that their eyes are not strained. For this, you can either go with contacts or glasses – or both. An alternative would be to get a second LASIK surgery to further correct their vision.
If you do choose to wear non prescription contact lenses after having LASIK, then be sure to see or call your eye surgeon for the best answer. They will most likely want to see your eyes rest a bit (maybe up to 6 months) before doing that but then you should be free to get them if you want. If you do, then make sure to take good care of your contacts since wearing contact lenses does increase the chance of getting eye infections.

If you want to get colored contacts, then those will be the only lenses that you put into your eyes. You don’t ever wear two pairs of contacts at the same time. You could, however, wear colored contact lenses and wear prescription glasses if you want.
