I’ve been wearing contacts for a few years now and I had been wearing my last set of lenses long enough. Ok, it was too long and I was overdue for a new order. So I made an appointment with my eye doctor and came in for a check up.
We did the various tests that they always do – including the test for glaucoma. He fitted me for a new lens prescription that was very close to my old prescription but probably more accurate. My eyes might have changed, so it was good to get an updated contact lens prescription.
I had been wearing lenses that I would change every 3 months but this time it was a little cheaper to go to lenses that I could change out monthly. This is better because you get a fresher pair more often and this is better for your eyes. The price for the 3 month pairs and 1 month pairs were pretty close, actually. But cheaper and being able to change them more often was good for me, so that’s what I went with.
Along with my order, since I was changing types of contacts, I asked if I could get a free pair of contacts. This free pair was a trial pair. I found that since there’s so much competition out there for contact lenses, I could ask for free trial pair and I would get them. So that’s what I did.
One surprising thing was the price for my non-free pairs. They gave me a price and it seemed high. Ok, it seemed really high. I mentioned that I paid less last time and was wondering if prices had changed that much since my last order. They stopped, checked the price again and said that they could call around. So they called 1-800-contacts for a price and they were much cheaper! I think it was like $20 a pair cheaper and since I was ordering 12 pairs (once a month), I saved like $240. Yeah, nice!
I also got an updated prescription for my glasses. I see they’re having a sale now so I’ll go back and get those ordered this week.
It’s good to visit your eye doctor every year. You should get your prescription updated and get your eyes checked and tested for glaucoma. If you’re wearing contact lenses with an old prescription, that’s not doing your eyes any favors. They’re probably working harder than they should and you don’t want to strain your eyes. If you take care of your eyes, they’ll take care of you!
So go to your eye doctor, get a prescription and don’t forget to get free contact lenses when you place your order.
